Afirstfilmasproducer/directorforthecelebratedactressSachikoHidari,whoplaysaleadingroleherselfandcanalsobeseeninDoubleSuicideatSonezakiinthisyear'sFestival.Ms.Hidariwasbornin1930,andworkedasateacherofmusicandgymnasticsbeforesigningwiththeindependentSogoGeijutsucompanyasanactressin1952.HerfirstsignificantappearanceswereintwoofHeinosukeGosho's1954films.AnInnatOsakaandtheTheCockCrowsAgain,andshehassubsequentlyplayedthefemaleleadinsuchfilmsasTomotakaTosaka'sTheMaid'sKid,SosumuHani'sSheandHeandImamura'sTheInsectWoman.Shefoundedherownproductioncompanytoco-produceTheFarRoadwiththeJapaneseNationalRailwayWorkers'Unionwithwhomshesharedawishtobringtothescreenforthefirsttimesomethingofthelivesandproblemsofblue-collarworkersintheJapaneseRailways.Theresultingfilmislargeinambitionandscale;itwastwoyearsinproduction,andfinallycostsome120millionyen.　　ThefilmbeginsonRailroadDay(14October)1975,withrailwayemployeeIchizoTakinouetravellingtoSapporowithhiswifeSatokotoreceivetoSapporowithhiswifeSatokotoreceivehisawardfor30years'service-awristwatch.Thatevening,Ichizo'ssuppressedtensionsandresentmentscometothesurfacewhenfornorationalreasonheviolentlyopposeshisdaughterYuki'sproposedmarriage.Satoko(playedbyMs.Hidari)thinksruefullybacktothedayshemarriedIchizoandreflectsonthechangesthatboththeyandtheJapanNationalRailwayhavebeenthrough.　　Throughaseriesofflashbacks,thefilmidentifesthecrucialyearoftransition.Intheearly60's,whenthefamilyhadtwoyoungchildrenandSatokowentouttoworkaswellasIchizo,thefirstwaveofmodernisationhittherailways:jobsecuritywasthreatenedandIchizotwicefailedhispromotionexams.By1966,theintroductionofnewtechnologywasresultinginlay-offs:Satoko,feelingthatsheshouldnothavetoworksimplytoearnenoughforthefamilytoliveon,urgedIchizotojointheUnionandsupportitsfightorjobsecurityandbetterwages.In1970,theMarusei(productionimprovementmovement)tookoff,andasecondRailwayWorkers'UNionwasfounded,thisonesecretlyguidedbytheJNRmanagement.Factionalismsetin,andoldfriendsfoundthemselvesdivided.....Backinthepresent,Ichizotakesstockofhissituationandrealisesthathehasbeentakingouthisfeelingsofuncertaintyandimpotenceonhisfamily.Hegiveshisblessingtohisdaughter'smarriage,andheandSatokotravelwiththeirdaughterandson-in-lawtoNagasaki.Theyoungcoupleinspiretheoldcoupletoreassessthe'farroad'aheadofthem.　　(TonyRayns3rdHKIFF) 更多关于《遥遥长路远》的精彩内容请持续关注小红帽影院。
