《熊猫的故事》讲述了一个关于家庭和自然保护的故事。故事发生在中国四川省九寨沟自然保护区上空，科研人员们正在寻找大熊猫。由于竹子的开花结籽，大熊猫们面临着饥饿和疾病的威胁。为了拯救它们，中日科研人员们组织了抢救行动。故事的主人公是东京动物园的佳代小姐，她被允许到中国学习大熊猫饲养技术。她一到九寨沟就参与了救援行动。在路上，她遇到了一个藏族少年龙龙，他请求他们救助一只奄奄一息的幼小大熊猫。佳代和龙龙将这只熊猫送到研究中心，经过医生的治疗，熊猫终于脱离了危险。然而，一天，这只调皮的熊猫溜出了研究中心，进入了茂密的森林中玩耍。熊猫的失踪引起了科研人员和附近村庄居民的搜索。佳代听到熊猫的叫声，顺着声音寻找时不慎滑落下山崖，却发现了熊猫正在断崖树桩上爬行。佳代不顾自己的伤痛，冒着危险抱起了这只可爱的幼小熊猫。她带着熊猫在山崖下寻找回去的路，幸运的是，龙龙带着猎狗及时赶到，帮助她们脱险。在龙龙的家里，人们围聚在一起，欢声笑语。为了纪念这个感人的故事，大家为熊猫取了一个响亮的名字"华华"。一年后，佳代和龙龙依依不舍地送华华回归大自然，让它独立生活。佳代的学习期满，她即将回国，村长代表全体村民祝她一路平安。然而，佳代发现龙龙并没有来送别，心里感到十分难过。但她看到龙龙独自站在山坡上，眼含泪水，目送她的小车驶向远方。
