JensonButtonandBrawnGPsecuredtheDrivers'ChampionshipandConstructors'ChampionshiptitlesrespectivelyintheBrazilianGrandPrix,thepenultimateraceoftheseason.ItwasbothButtonandBrawn'sfirstChampionshipsuccess,BrawnbecomingthefirstteamtowintheConstructors'Championshipintheirdebutseason.ButtonwasthetenthBritishdrivertowinthechampionship,andfollowingLewisHamilton'ssuccessin2008itwasthefirsttimetheChampionshiphadbeenwonbyEnglishdriversinconsecutiveseasons,andthefirsttimesinceGrahamHill(1968)andJackieStewart(1969)thatconsecutivechampionshipshavebeenwonbyBritishdrivers.AlsonotablewasthesuccessofRedBullRacing,aswellasthepoorperformanceofMcLarenandFerraricomparedtothepreviousseason. TenteamsparticipatedintheChampionshipafterseveralrulechangeswereimplementedbytheFIAtocutcoststotrytominimisetheimpactoftheglobalfinancialcrisis.Therewerefurtherchangestotrytoimprovetheon-trackspectaclewiththereturnofslicktyres,changestoaerodynamicsandtheintroductionofKineticEnergyRecoverySystems(KERS)presentingsomeofthebiggestchangesinFormulaOneregulationsforseveraldecades.
