Agentsfortheothersmallnationintheconflictdecidetosettheshipadriftthatsamenight.WhenBetsy'sfatherchecksupontheship,heiscapturedandtiedupbythesaboteurs.Betsyhearshiscryforhelpandboardstheshiptolookforhim,justbeforeitiscutloose. TheNavigatordriftsoutintothePacificOcean.Thetwounwittingpassengerseventuallyfindeachother.Atfirst,theyhavegreatdifficultylookingafterthemselves,butadaptafterafewweeks.Atonepoint,theysightanavyshipandhoistabrightly-coloredflag,notrealizingitsignalsthattheshipisunderquarantine.Asaresult,theothervesselturnsaway.
